Please stay tuned to Scott's blog. Several of us, under Vicki's guidance, will be starting annual fundraising efforts (soon). The theme will be one (or all) of the following three options: 1) we have already made steps toward a Univ. of Hawaii nursing school student scholarship--looking for Scott-like qualities: work ethic, dedication, strength, financial need, devotion to health care; 2) a donation to MM research efforts and trial drugs; 3) perpetuating efforts that Scott started involving helping Hawaii MM patients with treatment travel expense.
Scott had such a large and generous following of friends and family--and we are going to keep the momentum. A small amount from each of us annually really can make a difference for somebody, or shed light on unknowns in this mysterious form of cancer. Scott said our efforts made a huge difference in his quality of life during the past 4.5 years. He expressed his desire to thank everyone so often . . . and there were so many of us!
We already have enough manpower to sustain 100% of the annual efforts indefinitely--based in Hawaii but including Pennsylvania and all Scott's people nationally and internationally. However, we want opinions. And everyone who wants to be included, automatically is included. Our top goal is to perpetuate Scott's memory with action in a way he would himself--a way that will have the most effective future impact on improving lives. We want to honor his near-superhuman battle against myeloma that gifted all of us with extended time with him. Also we want to remember his 32 years prior to MM (the nurse scholarship). I know, very first hand, how recent this has all been. But we can DO things even now. And one of the best things you can do right now is link your e-mail to these blog posts, or, visit this site two times per month. And talk about this idea with Scott's friends, and your friends, often. Scraun was such a talker. Hard to keep that guy quiet wasn't it . . . .
We'll be in touch,
Scott's Hawaii Friends

Excellent idea Vicki, Jon, et al. All 3 options have tons of merit and will make a positive difference in many people's lives, so count me in!
Equally as important would be to consider becoming a regular blood and/or plasma/platelet donor... The latter two can be donated more frequently as they simply remove the platelets and/or plasma and return your red blood cells to you, both of which also have a shorter shelf life. The local Red Cross is a good place to start. And if you're even more game, you can check out the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. The Australian website is: http://www.abmdr.org.au/ not sure how similar it is to donating in America...
Been having lots of guilt-free ice cream lately - thanks to you, Scott! Missing you... Leigh B
